Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in San Diego with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in California may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 8 am–8:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach The Olive Tree Market at (619) 224-0443; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, olivetreemarket.com.

Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 433 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded specialty food stores in San Diego.

San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Diego follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Great deli! Love the option of half sandwiches. Great rootbeer selection! The baseball steaks are awesome too.

Went here shortly after 8am when they open to grab a sandwich for my drive out of town. When I went to the sandwich counter I asked for a menu. The lady said the monitors above my head. They were off. I said this. She said they open at 8:30. I don't know, the front door was open and I walked in, but I thought maybe they start making sandwiches and serve the deli food starting at 8:30. So I decided to wait the 15 minutes. Then a man walked up right in front of me, ordered deli stuff, got it packaged, paid for it and left. The guy who did this then walked away. I asked him if I could order a sandwich from him. All I got in response was "8:30." Well, screw that kind of service. The least these people could do was speak to me like a human being and tell me what the hell was going on. Friendliest service in OB my butt.

Firstly, I have visited this store on many occasions recently. On my first visit, I entered the store front door and I ask the owner if it was OK for me to bring my dog into the store. She advised me that it was OK. I’ve visited this store on many occasions since. This individual store employee was very rude when I brought my dog into the store. When I checked out at the counter, he rudely informed me to leave my dog outside the store in future visits. He stated that a sign was posted on the doors. I enter the store via the front entrance where no sign is posted. This is a great market with a rude employee. I will continue to shop there but will avoid this employee.
